America from West Side Story is featured in The First Time, the fifth episode of Season Three. It is sung by Puck, Rory, Santana, Tina and a few unnamed boys and girls as the Sharks and by Brittany, Mike, Quinn and some members of the Football Team as the Jets (though only Mike's and the Football Team's backup is heard).

Trivia
- Naya Rivera, who plays Santana, is actually half Puerto Rican.
- Santana and Brittany's hair is pinned up to appear shorter.
- In the original West Side Story, the Jets don't appear in this number (as stated by Emma). It is likely they were weaved in due to time constraints, and the inability to have a Jets number. This decision on the show was said to be Artie's.
- The cast did the movie version, not the play version. The stage version does not feature any male singers.
- The Acapella shows that Puck leads the Sharks, and Mike leads the Jets in their parts.
- A lot of the song was cut in both the episode and the official song release.
- Rory's first solo in a group number.
- One of the girls dancing during the performance is wearing the same dress that both the girls in New Directions and The Troubletones wear at Nationals later on in the Season.
Errors
- Continuing the show's confusion between the musicals and their film adaptations, the lyrics of America sung in this episode are the lyrics heard in the film version sung by both the Sharks and their girlfriends as opposed to the version sung only by the Shark girls in the musical.
