Dwight Evans is the father of Sam, Stacey, and Stevie and husband of Mary Evans. He is portrayed by actor John Schneider.
We learn that Sam has moved to Lima as a transfer student with his family, including his father.
New Directions find out that the Evans family has financial troubles, and they now live in a motel due to the fact that Dwight lost his job and their house was repossessed, so they had nowhere else to go.
The family moved away from Lima when Dwight got a job elsewhere.
Dwight Evans makes his first appearance in this episode. He's introduced along with his wife, Mary Evans, at Sam's house in Kentucky, when Finn and Rachel go back to get Sam back to Lima. Dwight, along with his wife, decides to let Sam go back to McKinley, and the Evans trio hug it out.
Blaine tries to give Sam fifty dollars since he saw him steal pasta, and mentions that Dwight has been struggling. Sam reveals that the pasta is for his art not for dinner.
- He is named after Dwight Evans, a baseball player on the Boston Red Sox. According to Brad Falchuk, Sam is named after him too.
