Brian Stokes Mitchell, born October 31, 1957,[1] is an American stage, film and television actor. He is known for his co-starring role on Trapper John, M.D.
On Glee, he guest starred as LeRoy Berry.
Personal Life[]
Mitchell was born to George Mitchell and the late Lillian Stokes[2][3] in Seattle, Washington.[1] He is the youngest of four children.[3] Mitchell lived in San Diego for six months, on Guam for two years, in the Philippines for six years, then back to San Diego, where he graduated from high school; his father was a civilian electronics engineer for the Navy.[4] His heritage is part Native American, as well as Scottish, German and African-American.[5]
He moved to Los Angeles, California when he was eighteen.[4]
Mitchell married Alysson Tucker in 1994[4] and their son, Ellington, was born in 2003.
Career[]
He made his television debut on Roots: The Next Generation. Mitchell had a co-starring role on 'Trapper John, M.D. for seven years between 1979 to 1986. He had recurring roles on James Bond Jr., New Kids on the Block, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Midnight Patrol: Adventures in the Dream Zone.
Mitchell had voice roles on Captain Planet and the Planeteers, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, Capitol Critters, and The Prince of Egypt plus others.
He made his Broadway debut in "Mail",[4] and had Broadway stints including: "Jelly’s Last Jam", "Kiss of the Spider Woman", "Oh Kay!", "Ragtime", and "Kiss Me, Kate", "King Hedley II."[6][7][8] Mitchell was announced, in July 2014, to have joined the cast of The Band Wagon. 'The Band Wagon will be between November 6 and November 16 at City Center.[9]
Mitchell was elected Chairman of the Board of "The Actors Fund of America" in 2004.[10]
Mitchell appeared on two episodes on Glee in 2012 and one episode in 2015.
He was credited as Brian Mitchell between the late 1970s till the early 1990s.
