Lyrics[]
Finn:
Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go
Blaine:
So make the best of this test, and don't ask why
It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time
Blaine and Finn:
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
Blaine:
So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind
Blaine with Finn:
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial
For what it's worth it was worth all the while
Blaine and Finn:
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
Whoa oh
Finn:
It's something unpredictable,
Blaine:
But in the end it's right.
Blaine and Finn:
I hope you had the time of your life.
Trivia[]
- In the booklet for the Graduation album, they list the singers for this song as Rachel, Finn, Sam and Mercedes; these are, however, the singers for You Get What You Give.
- Ironically, while the song is a popular graduation song (as well as being played at proms and funerals), and is interpreted by seniors as nostalgic and reflective of their time in high school, the real message of the song is "screw you" (hence the "Good Riddance" in the title). It was written by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong about his then girlfriend who moved to Ecuador. However, Armstrong remarked that, in retrospect, the lyrics make sense when viewed the way seniors view it. "The people that you grew up and braved the trials of high school with will always hold a special place. Through all the BS of high school you hope that your friends had the time of their life, and that's what the song is talking about".
