Honesty by Billy Joel is featured in Movin' Out, the sixth episode of Season Five. It is sung by Artie.
In the auditorium, Becky checks her phone and sees Artie on stage, indicating that he asked her to come. After Artie's other attempts at talking to Becky about her options of going to college were met with resistance, Artie tells her to chill out and listen to him, Becky takes a seat and the song begins. Artie finishes off his performance as he rolls down the stage to Becky, she misunderstands by thinking that Artie is being honest about liking her since kindergarten. Artie explains that the song was to make Becky be honest with Artie and herself about her desire to go to college. Artie knows that Becky is afraid of college and relates to his own experience. Becky confesses that she is afraid of being made fun of again and called stupid. Artie reassures her and says that she will have all the support she needs as well as the support of her old friends, including himself. Artie and Becky share a hug.
Lyrics[]
Artie:
If you search for tenderness
It isn't hard to find
You can have the love you need to live
But if you look for truthfulness
You might just as well be blind
It always seems to be so hard to give
Honesty is such a lonely word
Everyone is so untrue
Honesty is hardly ever heard
And mostly what I need from you
I can always find someone
To say they sympathize
If I wear my heart out on my sleeve
But I don't want some pretty face
To tell me pretty lies
All I want is someone to believe
Honesty is such a lonely word
Everyone is so untrue
Honesty is hardly ever heard
And mostly what I need from you
I can find a lover
I can find a friend
I can have security
Until the bitter end
Anyone can comfort me
With promises again
I know
I know
Honesty is such a lonely word
Everyone is so untrue
Honesty is hardly ever heard
And mostly what I need from you
It's what I need from you
