Leaving on a Jet Plane by John Denver is featured in Pilot, the first episode of Season One. It is sung by Will.
He sings it in the auditorium when he decides to leave McKinley in order to proceed an accounting career to be able to care better for Terri and the child she pretended to be pregnant with. Emma is making love notes in her yearbook around pictures of Will after she finds out he is leaving.
The song is featured in the DVD of the first season, the Pilot (Director's Cut) and The Road to Sectionals. It is only released as an exclusive track on Glee: The Music, Volume 1 at Target.

- First song sung by Will and Will's first solo.
- Will was originally going to sing "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay for this scene, but the show was unable to get the rights for it at the time. The band eventually released their catalogue to them by the end of Season One.
