My Man from Funny Girl is featured in Funeral , the twenty-first episode of Season Two. It is sung by Rachel as an audition for a solo at Nationals and it was a dedication to Finn, despite him not being present in the audience at the time.
At the end of the performance, Kurt stands up to applaud in tears until Santana pulls him back down. Rachel temporarily earns the solo for Nationals by singing this song, but eventually Will decides to go with another idea for the competition.
Rachel:
Oh my man, I love him so
He'll never know
All my life is just despair
But I don't care
When he takes me in his arms
The world is bright all right
What's the difference if I say
I'll go away
When I know I'll come back on my knees someday
For whatever my man is
I am his
forever more
Oh my man I love him so
He'll never know
All my life is just despair
But I don't care
When he takes me in his arms
The world is bright all right
What's the difference if I say
I'll go away
When I know I'll come back on my knees someday
For whatever my man is
I am his forever more.
Trivia
Rachel stated that this is the most difficult song she has ever sung.
During the recording of this song, Lea cried for the first time in the studio.
Jesse states that Mercedes is lazy for not moving during her performance, but he does not say this to Rachel (who stood in one place), because he was obviously biased in his choice of who was good enough to earn the Nationals solo.
Lea's tattoo on her right foot can be seen.
Lea performed this on Musicares Tribute to Barbra Streisand, in which Barbra herself saw the performance.
Errors
When Rachel starts singing her hair is over her shoulder and you see it slip off. In the next shot it back on her shoulder to only slide off again.
