To Sir, with Love by Lulu is featured in Journey, the twenty-second and final episode of Season One. It is sung by the New Directions, with solos from Artie, Finn, Kurt, Mercedes, Rachel, Santana, and Tina.
As the members of New Directions are still coming to terms with the fact that the club has been cancelled, this song is sung as a thank you to Mr. Schuester, showing that they can all change from their previous ways. Everyone was very emotional during the performance, either crying or very close to tears. Sue is seen watching the performance at the entrance of the April Rhodes Civic Pavilion.
Lyrics
Rachel:
Those school girl days
Of telling tales and biting nails are gone
But in my mind
I know they will still live on and on
Mercedes:
But how do you thank someone
Who has taken you from crayons to perfume?
Kurt:
Oh, it isn't easy, but I’ll try
Rachel with New Directions (Santana):
If you wanted the sky, I would
(Write) Write across the sky in (Letters) letters
That would (Soar) Soar a thousand feet (High) high
Rachel with Artie and New Directions:
To sir, with (with Santana: love)
Tina with Artie:
The time has come
For closing books
And long last looks must end
Finn and Mercedes:
And as I leave
I know that I am leaving my best friend
Santana:
A friend who taught me right from wrong
And weak from strong
That’s a lot to learn
Kurt:
What can I give you in return?
Rachel with Artie and New Directions:
(Rachel: Oh) If you wanted the moon, I would
(Artie and Santana: Try) Try and make a start, but I
Rachel with Artie, Santana, and New Directions:
Would rather you let me give my heart
To sir, with love
