Plot/Script[]
So here's what you missed on Glee: The Unitards. After Jesse quit his job, the Unitards got a new coach; Shelby Corcoran. Shelby assigned the kids a project and they had to perform three numbers as a group for her, so she could see their potential. Jesse got a trip to hospital after the kids fought with him, and Andy fell in love with June, but she's got a boyfriend, so he's kind of screwed. And that's what you missed on GLEE!!

Poppy drags herself into the choir room. Everyone is waiting for her, with the exception of Shelby, who is not in the choir room yet. Poppy takes a seat and looks so sad.
“What’s wrong, sister?” asks her best friend, Liz.
“I didn’t do my homework last night!” says Poppy angrily. She scratches her brown skin.
“Why not?” asks Justine with concerned tone.
“My dog ate it. Sort of anyway. He slobbered all over it and left food on it.”
Harmony looks confused. “Why can’t you just tell the teacher that?” she asks.
Poppy sighs then says, “Well, it sounds like an excuse. But that’s what really happened. As if the teacher’s gonna believe that my dog ATE my homework.”
“Why can’t you just say you went out somewhere last and someone stole your backpack that had your homework in it? Trust me, it works like a charm”, says Justine.
“Or why don’t you just say that your sister got food poisoning and you had to stay at the hospital all night?” says June.
“Firstly, I don’t even have a sister. And secondly, I don’t really eat out. Can’t you see I’m skinny as...?”
“What about you decided to do your assignment on the computer but a virus came up. You can use all these technological words so your teacher will have no idea what you’re talking about!” says Terri.
“No, no, no! I’m not a liar, people. I don’t plan on getting away with things using terrible excuses and porky-pies,” says Poppy.
In escorts Shelby. She is followed by a mysterious looking man. The first thing that catches everyone’s attention is how his hazel eyes seem to be staring at everyone, even though he is looking at just one direction. His poker face adds to the mysterious nature to him, as does his dark brown dreadlocks.
“Sorry but whom are you and where are you from, man? And how old are you?” asks Freddie.
He answers in his deep, strange voice, “My name is Spider Percy Reed. I’m from London and I’m 16 years old. I’ve been an orphan since I was twelve years old. I’m been fending for myself ever since. When I was younger I got my girlfriend pregnant and then she left me with the child and ran off with someone else. I have to do everything differently to the way you guys do. I have to look after a 2 year old son.”
“Wait! That means you impregnated her at 14 years old”, says Harmony.
“Yes, you’re right”, he answers.
Harmony looks a bit grossed out.
“Now, why would we let you in the club?” asks Harmony, trying to get him to not audition.
“When I was left with the child, I sold paintings and worked for various companies so that I could afford to come here. Ohio was far away from all the pain. But the thing I regretted the most was the fact that I was the lead vocalist in my band back there. I sung almost every solo. I loved the fame; I loved it when I got to perform in front of people. I miss performing. I never used to know this club even existed, until today. So when I saw your coach, Miss Corcoran, I felt that it was my obligation to join this club. You guys will need me, trust me!”
“Yeah well, we can’t make that decision until we’ve heard you sing. What have you got?” asks Terri.
Spider sits next to the piano accompanist and uses hand signals to tell him to move over.
He starts to play ‘Let It Be’ by the Beatles. He sings it. The club sits there enjoying the performance. The band members accompany him with their instruments.
“When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be
And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be
For though they may be parted, there is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
There will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be”
Poppy starts crying because she is so worried about her homework. Shelby looks confused and follows her out of the choir room.
“And when the night is cloudy there is still a light that shines on me
Shine until tomorrow, let it be
I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be
There will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be”
Everyone applauds Spider. They are all sitting in the choir room, eagerly waiting for Shelby to come back. She rushes through the door.
“I’m sorry I had to go but Poppy really needed me. I have some good news and some bad news. Which one do you want first?” asks Shelby whilst placing her green folder full of song lyrics down.
“I think we’ll go with the bad news first, so we can end off with something good,” says Tommy.
“Okay then – bad news first! Well, I was called to the principal’s office this morning before period one and if we don’t win Sectionals, unfortunately our glee club is over,” reveals Shelby.
“But, the glee club can’t be cancelled,” trembles Harmony.
“Well that’s the way life goes sometimes, Harmony. Now, who wants the good news?” asks Shelby.
“Please tell us!” pushes Laura.
“Okay then. The good news is that Spider is accepted into the Unitards. Congratulations buddy!” says Shelby.
Spider gets out of his seat and everybody cheers for him.

June is sitting opposite her boyfriend in the choir room. His back is to the camera, while you can see June clearly.
“Hit it!” she says.
She performs with her now revealed lover – Tommy!
He turns around facing to the camera and June gets up too. They sing ‘Build Me Up, Buttercup’ by The Foundations.
“June: Why do you build me up (Tommy: build me up)
Both: Buttercup, baby
June: Just to let me down (Tommy: let me down) and mess me around
And then worst of all (Tommy: worst of all) you never call, baby
When you say you will (Tommy: say you will) but I love you still
I need you ('Tommy: I need you) more than anyone, darlin
June and Tommy: You know that I have from the start
June: So build me up (Tommy: build me up) Both: Buttercup
Tommy: Don't break my heart
June:
"I'll be over at ten", you told me time and again
But you're late, I wait around and then (Tommy: bah-dah-dah)
I went to the door, I can't take any more
It's not you, you let me down again
Tommy:
(June: Hey, hey, hey!) Baby, baby, try to find
(June: Hey, hey, hey!) A little time and I'll make you mine
(June: Hey, hey, hey!) I'll be home
I'll be beside the phone waiting for you
June: Ooo-oo-ooo, ooo-oo-ooo
June (Tommy):
Why do you build me up (build me up) Buttercup, baby
Just to let me down (let me down) and mess me around
And then worst of all (worst of all) you never call, baby
When you say you will (say you will) but I love you still
I need you (I need you) more than anyone, darlin'
You know that I have from the start
So build me up (build me up) Buttercup, don't break my heart
Tommy (June):
You were my toy but I could be the boy you adore
If you'd just let me know (bah-dah-dah)
Although you're untrue, I'm attracted to you all the more
Why do I need you so?
(Hey, hey, hey!) Baby, baby, try to find
(Hey, hey, hey!) A little time and I'll make you mine
(Hey, hey, hey!) I'll be home
I'll be beside the phone waiting for you
June: Ooo-oo-ooo, ooo-oo-ooo”
Andy is about to step in to give some flowers to June, when he sees Tommy with her.
“June (Tommy):
Why do you build me up (build me up) Buttercup, baby
Just to let me down (let me down) and mess me around
And then worst of all (worst of all) you never call, baby
When you say you will (say you will) but I love you still
I need you (I need you) more than anyone, darlin'
You know that I have from the start
So build me up (build me up) Buttercup, don't break my heart”
Tears drip down Andy’s eyes, and he can’t take it anymore. He drops the bunch of flowers onto the ground. He rushes away covering his eyes as so to not be humiliated even further.
“June and Tommy:
I-I-I need you-oo-oo more than anyone, baby
You know that I have from the start
So build me up (Tommy: build me up) Buttercup, don't break my heart”
June smiles at Tommy and they walk out of the choir room together, holding hands and giving one last passionate kiss.

Poppy walks into the classroom and puts down her books.
“Why are you so late Poppy?” asks the teacher in her deep strict voice.
She picks up her bright red pen that matches her lipstick. She begins to write on the white page, that looks much like her skin colour. The black ink that comes out is scribbly and so messy, it is almost unreadable, much like her dark, curly, short hair.
Poppy looks frightened, then answers, “I’m so sorry Miss Indigo. I really didn’t mean to be late to art class, I just, kinda, the dog ate my homework. I’m so sorry, I just left my bag on the floor and my dog ripped all the sheets and slobbered all over it. It’s covered in dog saliva, and unless you wanted my art project to called ‘Slobby Doggy’ then unfortunately I don’t have an art project. I tried to start one in the hallways but I didn’t have time. This is all I got done.”
She hands a sheet of paper covered in scribbles.
“What are you talking about Poppy? This is amazing! I am so glad that your dog did what he did. It must have been a message that the work you produced before wasn’t good enough. I’m sure this piece of artwork is going to make you millions?” says Miss Indigo.
“Are you serious?” asks Poppy.
“Of course not! This artwork is going to get you nowhere in life. If you can’t draw a simple abstract picture, then I don’t know what you can do? I’m so disappointed in you Poppy. I’m ashamed. I’m intimidated to think that I am currently TEACHING you. You are a disgrace to this art room. If this happens again, you’ll be staying after school and learning how to draw and trace easy shapes. Do you want to go back all the way to kindergarten Miss Hill?”
“No Miss Indigo. I would be very happy to stay as a sophomore for now,” replies Poppy.
“Good! Then you will revise your shapes tonight. No more of this curvy, squiggly, ugly nonsense, okay?” yells Miss Indigo.
“Yes Miss. I understand.”

The mobile phone doesn’t stop ringing. She decides to pick it up.
“Hey June. My house. Now,” says Laura in her usual bossy tone.
“Okay then, I’ll be right over," answers June.
Laura then rings Justine.
“Justine! I can’t believe you’re not at my place right now. Come! Now!”
“Okay then. Sorry. See you there,” says Justine. She puts down the phone and grabs her hot pink coat and puts it on. She slams the door shut and hops into the taxi.
Laura opens the door. In walks Justine and June, who have both been picked up by the same taxi.
“It’s about time you guys got here!” yells Laura.
Justine says, “Sorry we’re late, the taxi took forever. He decided to not to read the map to get to your house before he got here, which is obviously not quite convenient, so we’re very -”
“Cut the crap guys. I’ve invited you here for one thing only. You know how I was experimenting with, with, uh…. You know, that girl. Well, uh…. If you tell anyone I was trying to be a lesbian, I will literally cut your throats in half. Actually, I wouldn’t do that, I’d get arrested. Instead, I’d send some really frightening guys to you. They would be ordered to kill you two. Basically what I’m saying is that if you tell anyone, absolutely ANYONE, I will KILL YOU!! Do you understand?” threatens Laura.
Justine and June nod convincingly. They look petrified from Laura’s statements. The look on their face is gold to Laura. She loves making people look terrified of her.
_________________________________________________________________________
“Okay then girls, take it away then!” says Shelby.
Laura gets up and pulls Justine and June out of their seats.
Laura performs a more intense, rock version of ‘I Kissed a Girl’ by Katy Perry.
The Unitards watch happily.
“Laura:
This was never the way I planned, not my intention
I got so brave, drink in hand, lost my discretion
It's not what I'm used to (Justine and June: used to), just wanna try you on
I'm curious for you (Justine and June: for you), caught my attention
Laura, Justine and June:
I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
Justine and June: I liked it'
Laura:
No, I don't even know your name, it doesn't matter
You're my experimental game, just human nature
It's not what good girls do (Justine and June: girls do), not how they should behave
My head gets so confused (Justine and June: confused), hard to obey
Laura, Justine and June:
I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick (Justine and June: uh)
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it (Justine and June: uh)
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight (Justine and June: uh)
I kissed a girl and I liked it
Justine and June: I liked it”
For a bit more of the music, the scene cuts to Laura making out with a girl with blonde hair. The music plays in the background.
“Justine and June:
Us girls we are so magical
Soft skin, red lips, so kissable
Hard to resist, so touchable
Too good to deny it”
Laura pushes away the girl and walks off.
“Laura: Ain't no big deal, it's innocent”
The scene cuts back to Laura performing with Justine and June in the choir room, in front of the Unitards and Shelby.
“Laura, Justine and June:
I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick (Justine and June: uh)
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it (Justine and June: uh)
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
Laura: I liked it”
Everyone claps for the girls.
“Well done girls, that was amazing. I’ve never seen so much energy out of you Laura. Where did all that come from?” asks Shelby.
“Well, I am a cheerleader, in case you missed the uniform,” answers Laura.
“I must agree that you guys did a great job, but what was the meaning behind this song?” asks Teddy.
“Well, Laura was –” starts June.
Laura covers her mouth.
“I was listening to Katy Perry’s CD all weekend. I really love her songs and so I decided to dedicate it to the glee club. After all, if I’m gonna waste my time with you losers, I may aswell sing something”, splurts Laura.
__________________________________________________________________
“…. So I met him and we started a little conversation. We immediately started talking about our favourite artists and we found we have really similar musical tastes and idols. I knew he would love to join the glee club, so here he is,” talks Andy.
“Hey guys, I’m Simon Click. I’m a tall handsome guy. I’m barely popular. I’m not straight, I’m out of the closest and I’m happy about it. I’m real modern and I love music. I would literally die without it. I can rap, I can sing, I can dance, I can act. I’m pretty sure they’re the only things you need to be able to do to get into this club.”
He flicks aside some of his blonde fringe that kept getting in the way of his sea-blue eyes.
“So, for my audition today I decided to sing a duet with Andy. He reckons I sound better when I sing with people, for some reason he thinks other people’s voices compliment mine or something like that anyway. So, today, we’ll be singing Bruno’s and BOB’s ‘Nothin’ On You’!”
Andy sings Bruno Mars’ parts in ‘Nothin On You’ and Simon sings BOB’s parts. The Unitards vocalise in the background.
“Andy Beautiful girls, all over the world
I could be chasing but my time would be wasted
They got nothin’ on you, baby
Nothin’ on you, baby
They might say hi, and I might say hey
But you shouldn't worry, about what they say
'Cause they got nothin’ on you, baby (Simon: Yeah...)
Nothin’ on you, baby
(Simon: Nuh-nuh-nuh-nothin ’on you babe, nuh-nothin’ on you)
Simon:

Simon: There's no much nonsense, it's on my conscience
I'm thinkin, "Maybe I should get it out"
And I don't wanna sound redundant
But I was wondering, if there was somethin’ that you wanna know
(Somethin that you wanna know)
But never mind that, we should let it go (we should let it go)
'Cause we don't wanna be a TV episode (TV episode)
And all the bad thoughts, just let 'em go (go!)

Andy: Beautiful girls, all over the world

'Cause they got nothin’ on you, baby
(Simon: Nuh-nuh-nuh-nothin’ on you babe, nuh-nothin on you)
Nothin’ on you, baby
(Simon: Nuh-nuh-nuh-nothin’ on you babe, nuh-nothin’ on you)

Andy:

Nothin’ on you, baby
(Simon: Nuh-nuh-nuh-nothin on you babe, nuh-nothin on you)
They might say hi (Simon: hey), and I might say hey (Simon: Hey)
But you shouldn't worry, about what they say (Simon: What?)
'Cause they got nothin’ on you, baby
(Simon: Nuh-nuh-nuh-nothin’ on you babe, nuh-nothin on you)
Nothin’ on you, baby

Whether a bus or a plane (plane), or a car or a train (train)
No other girls in my brain, and you the one to blame
Andy:
Beautiful girls, all over the world (Simon: yeah, all over)
I could be chasing but my time would be wasted (Simon: haha)
They got nothin’ on you, baby
(Simon: Nuh-nuh-nuh-nothin on you babe, nuh-nothin’ on you)
Nothin’ on you, baby
(Simon: Nuh-nuh-nuh-nothin on you babe, nuh-nothin on you)
They might say hi (Simon: hi), and I might say hey (Simon: yello)
But you shouldn't worry, about what they say (Simon: What?)
'Cause they got nothin’ on you, baby
(Simon: Nuh-nuh-nuh-nothin’ on you babe, nuh-nothin on you)
Nothin’ on you, baby
(Simon: Nuh-nuh-nuh-nothin’ on you babe, nuh-nothin’ on you)
Yeah
Simon: Yeah, and that's just how we do it
He-he-he, and I'm a let this ride
B.o.B and Bruno Mars”

The Jackson High bell rings. People are frantically putting away books and trying to catch their bus on time.
In one of the school’s classrooms, Shelby is placing her books into her big puffy brown leather bag.
In walks Teddy.
“Oh hey Teddy. What’s the matter, why are you crying?” says Shelby.
Teddy tries to answer but she is having trouble when she is crying.
“Just calm down, okay. Stop crying and I’ll help you out,” says Shelby in a compassionate voice.
Teddy wipes her tears and sits down.
“I’ve got no friends. I’ve got nothing to live for Shelby. Nobody tries to be my friend. I joined the glee club hoping for some people to maybe include me. I got the opposite of that. Nobody in that glee club talks to me, or even acknowledges that I’m in the room. Every time I try to start a conversation with someone, they push me away and they don’t really seem to care at all. I don’t know what I’ve got to live for Shelby. I don’t want to turn out to be one of those people who never gets married or starts a family. You know, I don’t want to turn 30 and be single.”
Shelby looks kind of embarrassed because she knows she is 32 years old and is single.
“Look Teddy. I think you’ve got lots for your future. That guy’s gonna come one day, trust me. I was just like you at high school, I was popular, I thought I belonged. Until one day I realised that nobody really cared about me. I didn’t have a boyfriend at high school. Well, technically I did, but he cheated on me, so it doesn’t really count. You’re a great singer also Teddy. You’ve just got to wait, until you find that guy who’s right for you.”
Teddy looks a lot happier.
“Thanks so much Miss Corcoran. I really appreciate your help. Thanks.”
“That’s all right!” exclaims Shelby, “I’m here to help anytime you need me.”
“Thanks. Well, I guess I’ll see you in glee club tomorrow then,” says Teddy and walks off.
She walks out, and performs ‘One Way or Another’ by Blondie, in a dream sequence. In the scenes, she is trying to find the right guy. She looks for the right guy throughout the song.
“One way or another I'm gonna find ya
I'm gonna getcha, getcha, getcha, getcha
One way or another I'm gonna win ya
I'm gonna getcha, getcha, getcha, getcha
One way or another I'm gonna see ya
I'm gonna meetcha, meetcha, meetcha, meetcha
One day, maybe next week
I'm gonna meetcha, I'm gonna meetcha, I'll meetcha
I will drive past your house
And if the lights are all down
I'll see who's around
One way or another I'm gonna find ya
I'm gonna getcha, getcha, getcha, getcha
One way or another I'm gonna win ya
I'll getcha, I'll getcha
One way or another I'm gonna see ya
I'm gonna meetcha, meetcha, meetcha, meetcha
One day, maybe next week
I'm gonna meetcha, I'll meetcha
And if the lights are all out
I'll follow your bus downtown
See who's hanging out
One way or another I'm gonna lose ya
I'm gonna give you the slip, a slip of the lip or another
I'm gonna lose ya, I'm gonna trick ya, I'll trick ya
One way or another I'm gonna lose ya
I'm gonna trick ya, trick ya, trick ya, trick ya
One way or another I'm gonna lose ya
I'm gonna give you the slip
I'll walk down the mall
Stand over by the wall
Where I can see it all
Find out who ya call
Lead you to the supermarket checkout
Some specials and rat food, get lost in the crowd
One way or another I'm gonna getcha, I'll getcha, I'll getcha, getcha, getcha, getcha
(Where I can see it all, find out who ya call)
One way or another I'm gonna getcha, I'll getcha, I'll getcha, getcha, getcha, getcha
(Where I can see it all, find out who ya call)
One way or another I'm gonna getcha, I'll getcha, I'll getcha, getcha, getcha, getcha
(Where I can see it all, find out who ya call)”
At the end, she has not found the right boy that she is looking for. She rushes off home crying.

“Come in my room Rex,” says Amanda.
Rex walks in with Amanda following behind. The pink walls are not the prettiest site to Rex. The fluffy pink love heart pillow placed on her bed is what Rex needs.
“Look, I know you’re tired Rex, but we really don’t have time for a rest.”
“I’m not tired,” argues Rex.
“Yes you are – you’ve been playing video games all day,” says Amanda.
“Whatever. Please can I have a rest Amanda?” asks Rex.
“No. Stop Rex. I know you’re sick, so you couldn’t go to school today, but I brought you here for a reason. I’ve been trying to make some friends with the people in the glee club. They’re all really nice people, but none of them really looked after me as much as you do. I really love being your friend, Rex. I wanted to thank you for being so kind, being so understanding towards me.”
“That’s okay.”
“I’ve prepared a little song for you, if you’d just listen. Paramore was who I auditioned for the glee club with, and I really love the music they produce. I want to perform a little something for you, if that’s alright with you,” asks Amanda.
“Sure! I’d love to hear you sing. Maybe then I’d fall asleep,” says Rex in a sarcastic tone.
“Okay. I’m gonna pretend I never heard that,” says Amanda.
She gets out her guitar and plays the beginning to Paramore’s ‘The Only Exception’.
She then begins to sing a sweeter version of it, much like Glee’s (Lea Michele’s) version.
“When I was younger
I saw my daddy cry
And curse at the wind
He broke his own heart
And I watched
As he tried to reassemble it
And my momma swore that
She would never let herself forget
And that was the day that I promised
I’d never sing of love
If it does not exist
But darling,
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
Maybe I know, somewhere
Deep in my soul
That love never lasts
And we’ve got to find other ways
To make it alone
Keep a straight face
And I’ve always lived like this
Keeping a comfortable, distance
And up until now
I had sworn to myself that I’m
Content with loneliness
Because none of it was ever worth the risk
Well, you, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
I’ve got a tight grip on reality
But I can’t
Let go of what’s in front of me here
I know you’re leaving
In the morning, when you wake up
Leave me with some kind of proof it’s not a dream
Oh—
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
And I’m on my way to believing
Oh, And I’m on my way to believing”
Rex claps for her.
“That was dedicated to you, Rex Espley-Wilkes,” she ends the episode with.
