Recap[]

So here's what you missed on The Unitards...

Mr. Jelly was fired as principal, and Mr. Hadberg was revealed to be the new one, which no one’s really happy about, but I’m sure that wouldn’t surprise you. Shockingly, he expelled Poppy, Carlton, Liz, Teddy, Amanda and Rex all for skipping school.

Also, Mr. Hadberg cut the school musical of Wicked because apparently Jesse hadn’t bought the rights to the show, which really upset the entire cast, including Harmony, even though she was just playing a citizen of Oz. But it mostly upset June because her dreams are to be on Broadway and she thinks they’re ruined now that she won’t get a chance to shine in a musical.

Another thing to mention is that Carlton was also kicked out of his house right before Sectionals because he told his parents he was gay. But that was ages ago, you’d have thought that problem was solved by now? But it isn’t. He’s still staying with Poppy and Jason at their house....

...and that’s what you missed on Glee: The Unitards.

Story[]

“Hey,” Amanda said into her computer. Facing back at her was Teddy and Liz, inside two little boxes, with the words “Skype” clearly written above the two boxes.

“Hey,” replied Teddy back.
“Hi, how are you all?” asked Liz.

“I’m alright I guess. My mum and dad are really mad at me for skipping school and they don’t want to talk to me,” said Amanda.

“Same. My mother told me I was grounded forever because I skipped school,” said Liz.

“What? They can’t do that,” said Poppy, who had only a few seconds earlier joined the conversation through her laptop.
“I know, well, technically it’s not forever. It’s just until I can find a new school to go to, but I know no one’s ever going to take me now. So I guess I’m grounded for eternity,” said Liz.

“Oh, Liz, I feel so bad for you. My parents said they were disappointed in me for skipping school, but they said that they think it was wrong for Mr. Hadberg to expel us until the end of time. My mum said that she understands me, as she skipped school a few times when she went to high school, and she says she forgives me. She said that my dad’s going to have a word with Mr. Hadberg next week and question all of our expels.”

“My parents grounded me for a week. Like yours, Liz, they just don’t want to talk to me,” said Teddy.

Then in Poppy’s room, Carlton walked in. As they had been living in the same house after Carlton’s parents kicked him out, the consequences of skipping school were the same for Carlton as for Poppy.

“Have you heard from Rex yet?” asked Teddy.

“No, not yet,” said Amanda. “Usually he’s always got a Skype window opened up in the background somewhere, and he usually calls me continuously and tries to video call me, but it never says he’s online anymore. I’ve tried calling him through my mobile and texting him, but no response.”

“Well, I guess you’ll just have to wait and see,” said Carlton.

“Hopefully he’s alright,” said Liz.

“He should be fine,” said Poppy.

“I hope so. It’s just so unlike him not to speak to me,” she said.

In the choir room, Jesse sat on the piano.

“Just a reminder that Mr. Hadberg has cut the musical so -”

Then a familiar female voice cut him off.

“Not anymore Mr. Jesse St. James. I’ve heard all about your plans. As soon as I heard that your performance of Wicked was axed, I had the perfect idea. So many of the props you used for Wicked would be used for other Wizard of Oz spin-off productions. I would suggest The Wiz.”

“I love that movie, but mostly because Michael Jackson’s in it,” said Terri.

“Don’t forget about Diana Ross!” said Harmony disappointedly that Terri didn’t mention her.

“Anyway, I thought I’d help out since I actually attempted my own all-white version of the show on Broadway. I thought we could even convert some of the movie’s songs that weren’t used in the musical into your performance.”

“Oh my god, are you the Miss April Rhodes? The founder and main star of Crossrhodes?” asked June.

“Of course I am,” she replied.

“I’ve read all about you on the internet,” said Harmony shocked to meet her first Broadway star.

“Oh, it’s nothing, really. It’s based on my life, plus, I didn’t even write the scenes or the songs myself. My friend did. His name was Will Schuester.”

“I know that man,” said Jesse.

“How?” asked April.

“I was in his glee club for a few weeks. Then I moved back to Vocal Adrenaline.”

“What was the glee club called that he coached?” asked Winter.

“The New Directions,” replied Jesse.

“Oh my gosh, guys! Jason, Poppy, Liz: we versed them at Sectionals last year. They came first. They even went on to win first place at Nationals last year,” said Harmony excitedly.

“Hey, give it a break, it was only because of their star performer Rachel Berry. I almost won,” said Jesse.

“I know Rachel Berry, and Kurt Hummel. I met them at a NYADA hopeful mixer session,” said Harmony.

“Really?” asked Jesse.

“Yeah. By the way, why did you leave coaching Vocal Adrenaline if you made it to Nationals?” asked Harmony.

“Oh, they’re very tough that club. After their loss of Wade “Unique” Adams, who by the way, looks a lot like you Carlton, after he transferred to New Directions, they fired me. Apparently they do that every year if they don’t win Nationals. Happened to some guy called Dustin Goolsby as well.”

“Anyway, back onto the point,” interrupted April. “I’ll start a list with Jesse tomorrow to discuss our plans and uses of props, as well as auditions for the lead roles will be today at lunch.”

The bell then rung and Jesse said “Off you go!” and they all rushed out, except June and April. They were the only ones left in the room.

“Why are you here in Lima, Ohio and not in New York on Broadway?” asked June.

“Oh, it’s a long story love,” said April to June, whilst she collected her handbag from the ground.

“But why Miss Rhodes?” asked June politely and excitedly.

“Look, one day if you move somewhere else in this world, you’ll eventually just miss your home. You’ll want to come back, even if it’s just for a short visit. See how things are going back there. One day you’ll know.”

“Well I want to be on Broadway too, like you. I don’t think I’ll ever want to come back here though, I hate this place.”

“Oh trust me, I thought I hated here too, but I was proven wrong after spending a bit of time over in New York,” said April.

“Thank you so much for bringing back the musical. The Wiz is actually a personal favorite,” said June thankfully.

“Oh it’s fine dear. At least I know while I’m here I’ll stay sober and occupied for a good few hours,” she laughed.

June nodded, as well as smiled toothily, but neither convincingly.

“Anyway, I’d better get out of this place. I took possibly too much vodka this morning, so I’d better get out of here before I get drunk.”

In the auditorium, Jason sung “Y’all Got It!” from The Wiz as his audition for the role of The Wizard. Some extras as the Citizens of Oz performed back-up.

Y'All_Got_It

Y'All Got It

Jason:

I got to leave, so I’ve packed my bag and I’m going

I’ve got a date so don’t you ask me to stay

‘Cause I’m showing

You were always ready for new wizardry

You must have thought that miracles came easy to me

Take what I gave you and put it on a shelf

‘Cause now it’s time for this here Wiz to wiz on

Himself

And I’m wizin’

Give me a reason why I should stay and I’ll judge it

My mind is made up so noting you say’s gonna budge it

Y’all copped a whole lot of magic from me

But this, the greatest magic that you’ll ever see

If you blink more than one time the kid will be gone

And you will have to hook up the rest on your own

And do you know what I think about that?

Your works cut out for you, it’s not about if, buts, or ands

‘Cause when I leave this town I’m leaving it all in your hands

I packed up my clothes and I packed up my power

I’m leaving this place in less that one half an hour

If you look up into the sky you’ll know just who it is

It’s not a bird, it’s not a plane, it’s just the

Little ole wiz

And guess who’s on after that?

Citizens of Oz:

Y’all got it

Y’all got it

Y’all got it

Jason:

Talkin’ ‘bout leavin’ here

Citizens of Oz:

Y’all got it

Y’all got it

Y’all got it

Jason:

Talkin’ ‘bout leavin’ here

Citizens of Oz:

Y’all got it

Y’all got it

Y’all got it

Jason:

Y’all got it!”

“Well done, that was great,” said April, clapping.

“I thought it lacked a bit of emotion to be honest with you Jason,” complained Jesse.

“This song isn’t emotional. How can my performance lack emotion?” asked Jason.

“Please Jason, don’t argue with me. This scene is very emotional. It’s the part where the Wiz is about to leave Oz, it’s a milestone in his life, how can you not see that as emotional?” said Jesse, once again criticizing Jason.

“Oh give him a break will you,” said April. “You’re just jealous to see these kids get an opportunity to be the lead in a musical since you never had the chance.”

“That is not true at all,” denied Jesse.

Jason watched on from the stage at the two arguing.
“Actually, that just gave me an idea,” said April.

“What?” asked Jesse still annoyed by her comment.

“You can play Uncle Henry, Dorothy’s grandfather,” said April.

“No way.”

“Well none of the kids want to play a 70 year old hunchback,” said April.

“That’s true,” said Jesse.

“Consider it, will you?” asked April.

“We’ll see,” said Jesse but in a way that you don’t believe it was the truth.

“Next!” yelled April, Jason then watching off the stage.

____________________________________________________________________________________

The hallways were bustling with people as they hurried along to their lockers as the bell was about to ring any second, and the students didn’t want to get yelled at by their strict teachers who would kill them if they were late.

“Wait, before you go,” said Justine. “I need to tell you something. I forgot all about it.”

June turned around and walked over to Justine’s locker.

“Sure, what is it?” asked June.

“Well, uh, I don’t know how to say this, but...” began Justine, taking a breath, then speaking once again, “I have a new boyfriend.”

“Really? Who is he?” she asked back.

“Freddie.”

“Weathers?” she asked.

“Yes. Freddie Weathers.”

“Oh, alright,” said June, “It’s funny how at the start of the year you were knocking up all the guys and now the best you can even go out on a date with is Freddie Weathers.” She laughed. Justine laughed back.

“Oh, by the way, for The Wiz, Jesse and Miss Rhodes posted a few of the roles earlier today. Harmony got Dorothy, Terri got the Scarecrow, and I got the role of Addaperle,” said Justine.

“You mean the character I auditioned for. You got the role of Addaperle, the good witch, the character I wanted to play!” said June shocked.

“Yeah. But don’t worry. Turns out Miss Rhodes really liked your enthusiasm so she gave you the role of Evillene,” replied Justine.

“You mean the Wicked Witch of the West?” she asked.

“Yeah. That one.”

June sighed sadly. “I know that she probably thought I didn’t mind getting dressed up like a witch and wearing green make-up, but that was only because I was playing Elphaba for Wicked. Evillene is completely different to Elphaba. They’re two different stories,” complained June.
Then the school bell rang for class.

“See you then,” said June, then leaving unhappily.

“See you,” said Justine, then opening her locker to get her books for next period.

____________________________________________________________________________________

Later that day, in the hallways of Jackson High, Jason waits in front of the school’s pin up board.

“Obviously I’ve got the part of the Wizard, I mean, why would they give it to me for Wicked, then take it away and hand it over to someone else for The Wiz? Jesse said I was a perfect wizard during rehearsals for Wicked, so obviously I’m getting the role,” said Jason to Tommy who waited at the pin-up board too.

“I think I got the role actually,” said Tommy confidently.

“No, I got it for sure,” said Freddie.

Then Jesse walked by holding a folder with lots of papers hanging loosely out of it.

“Have you got the list of who’s the Wizard?” asked Tommy excitedly.

“Uh.. no.. sorry.... April and I are still deciding. We want to post the entire list of cast members all at the same time,” replied Jesse, although you could tell this was just an excuse as he had already posted some of the roles already.

“Do you think it’d be up by tomorrow?” asked Freddie.

“Possibly. But possibly not. We’ll see,” said Jesse, then walking off.

“Obviously Freddie’s getting the role,” said Justine, who had mysteriously appeared from nowhere.

“No, obviously Tommy’s getting the role,” said June, eyeing off Justine.

“Oh please,” said Justine giggling at the thought of Tommy being dressed up in a wizard hat and robe.

“I’m the wizard,” said Jason.

“He’s the wizard,” said Justine pointing at her boyfriend Freddie.

“He’s the wizard,” said June pointing at her boyfriend Tommy.

The scene cuts to Justine as she sang “He’s The Wiz” in the auditorium, performing it as Addaperle, the Good Witch, with the extras as the Munchkins performing some parts. She sung it in rehearsal for the musical. Harmony who was playing Dorothy was also present, and Justine, Harmony and the Munchkins act out the scene similarly to the original.

The_Wiz_-_He's_The_Wizard

The Wiz - He's The Wizard

Munchkins:

Doo wah doo wah doo wah,

Doo wah doo wah do wah!

Justine:

Sweet thing, let me tell you ‘bout,

The world and the way things are.

You come from a different place,

And I know you’ve traveled far.

Now that you’ve told me what it is,

Munchkins:

Ya da da da da

Justine:

I’d better point you toward the Wiz!

Munchkins:

He’s the Wiz...

Justine:

He’s the man, he’s the only one

Who can give your wish right to ya.

Munchkins:

He’s the Wizard...

Justine:

He can send you back through time,

By runnin’ magic through ya.

All of the superpower’s his.

Listen and I’ll tell you where he is.

Justine and Munchkins:

He’s the Wiz and he lives in Oz.

Munchkins:

He’s the Wiz...

Justine continued to sing the song whilst walking in the hallways, with the Munchkins following and singing too.

Justine:

There’s a way to Emerald City.

Now, that’s not too far, is it?

Munchkins:

He’s the Wizard...

Justine:

Just take your dilemma child,

And lay it on the Wizard.

He’ll fix you a drink

That’ll bubble and foam.

Munchkins:

Bloop, bloop!

Ya da da da da

Justine:

And in a flash, you will be home!

Justine and Munchkins:

He’s the Wiz and he lives in Oz.

Munchkins:

He’s the Wiz...

Justine:

He’s the Wiz, he’s the Wizard of Oz.

He’s got magic up his sleeve.

Munchkins:

He’s the Wizard...

The song continues in the auditorium for rehearsal.

Justine:

And, you know, without his help

T’would be impossible to leave.

Fantastic powers at his command,

But I’m sure that he will understand.

Justine and Munchkins:

He’s the Wiz and he lives in Oz.

Munchkins:

He’s the Wizard..

Justine (under):

Ya da da da, ya da da da

Ya da da daaa

Harmony:

He’s the Wizard!

Munchkins:

Ya da da da, ya da da da

Justine, Munchkins and Harmony:

Yeah!

“He’s the wizard!” exclaims Harmony as Dorothy excitedly.

“But before you go,” begins Justine as Addaperle, “Maybe you ought to take Evamene’s silver slippers. Here. I hope you don’t mind wearing second-hand shoes.”

Jesse laughed slightly under his breath.

A munchkin hands Justine the pair of silver slippers. She hands them to Harmony and she places them on her feet.

“Wow, I’ve never had a pair of shoes this beautiful before,” said Harmony, acting her role perfectly.

“But, you have to promise not to take them off till you get home!” said Justine, also playing her role perfectly.

“Alright, I promise... but why?”

“Cause they... well..” began Justine, acting cautiously, “Cause they really got some secret magic powers.”

“What do they do?” asked Harmony, studying the shoes, acting curiously.

“I don’t know. That’s the secret,” replied Justine.

“Well, they’re just my size anyway.”

“I have to go now, but remember that I will protect you wherever you go,” said Justine kindly to Harmony. She walked off the stage.

Harmony smiled and waved goodbye, then said, “But she didn’t tell me how to get to Emerald City.”

A munchkin then said, “Oh darling, you can’t miss it.”

“I can’t?” asked Harmony.

“No, of course you can’t,” replied the same munchkin. “You’ll be fine.”

Then another munchkin stepped forward and spoke. “You see that road of yellow bricks?”

“Right...” nodded Harmony.

“Just follow that for... wait, Miss Rhodes, how many days does it take?” asked the munchkin.

“It’s two days!” yelled Harmony impatiently. “You’ve stuffed that line up every time. You only have like five short lines in the whole performance to remember and yet you manage to stuff it up every time. I’m basically featured in every single scene of this musical, yet I somehow remember all of my lines. This is ridiculous, you’re ridiculous!”

“Calm down Harmony,” said Jesse although he was secretly fed up of the student as well.

“I’m sorry,” apologized Harmony. “It’s just hard when people obviously haven’t practiced their lines,” she said, looking directly at the munchkin who obviously was the one who she was talking about. “I just don’t want to be the lead in a musical that turns out to be terrible.”
“We really need a new munchkin,” whispered April to Jesse.

“I know,” replied Jesse. “This musical is a disaster.”

“Back from your line munchkin who keeps stuffing up,” directed April.

“Just follow that road for two days, now...” he said, finally getting it correct.

“Right...” nodded Harmony.

“But watch out for supernatural things!” exclaimed the munchkin.

“Like... like... what?” asked Harmony, placing the scared expressions on her face ideally.

“Like... talking crows and flying winged monkeys.”

Then another munchkin spoke. “But, most of all, watch out for that Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the Witch! That girl is oh so evil and she is NOT going to be happy about Evamene.” The munchkin then pointed to the small house prop that had obviously squashed the other witch Evamene.

“Apart from that, have a nice holiday!” exclaimed the munchkin who had made a mistake before.

“It’s have a nice trip, not have a nice holiday!” yelled Jesse who was also becoming impatient of this student.

“Sorry,” he apologized. “Apart from that, have a nice trip!” he corrected himself.

“Remember to follow those yellow bricks,” said another munchkin.

“Alright, scene over. Back from the top,” said April, letting out a loud yawn. “And get it right this time munchkin who keeps stuffing up his lines.”

____________________________________________________________________________________

Walking up to the pin-up board, Jesse held the list of paper that would make or break people. On the list were the people who had received main roles in the musical.

But Jesse looked down at the list, eyeing it off, still seeming like there was still going to be someone who would be upset by the casting. Although what had to be done had to be done and he had no choice but to post the list.

He grabbed two pins off the pin up board and worked it through the paper, until the list hung up by itself.

One last time, he read through the list.

“Hello mother,” said Winter after she had arrived home.

“Winter, go do your homework!” yelled Helen. “Stop talking, start working!”

“I need to tell you something,” said Winter.

“You’re not pregnant are you? Because if you are, I am never speaking to you again.”

“No mother, I’m not pregnant. I got one of the lead roles in our school’s musical of The Wiz.”

“I thought your school was doing The Sound of Music?” asked Helen.

“No, mother, we’re doing The Wiz. I’m playing Glinda, the good witch.”

“I can’t believe you! I can’t believe you would waste your time on the arts. You should be putting your academics before that stupid, cockeyed, unintelligent, lame, idiotic, insane, ridiculous, batty, harebrained, halfwitted musical! How dare you turn your back on your studies! How dare you turn your back on your mother! But you know what? It’s alright. It really is. You know why? Because you’re going to go and speak to whichever one of those teachers who is just as foolish as you, and you’re going to tell them that you quit.”

“But mother, singing is my dream, I want to spend the rest of my life performing. I want to be an artist. This is what I want to do with my life.”

“No! Listen to me right know you stupid girl! Something’s wrong in that tiny, little brain of yours! Don’t you understand that music is a waste of time! This is absolutely ridiculous. You are going to quit that musical, no ifs or buts. Now go, do your homework, stop wasting my time that I could have spent reading my magazine that got delivered to me!”

____________________________________________________________________________________

Jesse couldn’t help but find the upcoming rehearsal exciting. If he had to go out with any one student in the school, it would probably be Harmony Harpse, and if he had to date any one staff member at Jackson High, it would be Amy Sky. Therefore, watching them perform a together was more than exciting through Jesse’s eyes.

Amy who was performing as Aunt Em, and Harmony as Dorothy, sung “The Feeling We Once Had” in rehearsal.

The_Wiz_-_The_Feeling_We_Once_Had

The Wiz - The Feeling We Once Had

Amy:

Put your arms around me child

Like when you bumped your shin

Then you'll know I love you now

As I loved you then

Though you maybe trying sometimes

And I'll need you

And you're not there

I may get mad

And turn you away

But you know that I still care

But you cannot ask for more

Than can come from me

I am different than you are

And one day you'll see

So if I lose my patience with you

And I suddenly I start to scream

It's only because

I just want you to be

Everything I see in my dreams

And I'd like to know that it's there

The feeling that we once had

When you know that you can come

Running to me

Whenever times are bad

Amy with Harmony:

Don't lose the feeling that we once had

Don't lose the feeling that we once had

Amy:

Though you are growing older now

And I'm watching you grow

I know I make you sad sometimes

And I see your feelings show

But one day

I'll look around

And you will be grown

You'll be out in the world

Such a pretty little girl

Child, you'll be out there on your own

Oh, and I'd like to know that it's there

The feeling, feeling we once had

When you’re down,

Knowing that you can come running to me

If ever times are bad

Child, you’ve just got to know that it’s bad

The feeling, feeling we once had.”

“Well done,” applauded Jesse.

“It was great,” agreed April. “I have a feeling your musical’s going to make more profit than my Wiz ever did, and that’s considering mine was actually on Broadway.”

“You were outstanding Amy,” said Jesse.

“Yes, you were, Miss Sky,” said Harmony, agreeing.

____________________________________________________________________________________

“Hey,” said Winter to Jason who sat in the choir room, facing the back wall.

“Wait, what’s wrong? Are you crying?”

“Yes,” replied Jason.
“Why?” she asked.

“To be honest, I just feel like I don’t deserve the role of The Wizard.”

“Why not?” asked Winter. “You’re handsome and sexy, a great singer, and besides, green is obviously your color.”

“I wish you’d said that earlier. I mean... nobody’s really been very supportive of me getting this role. No one’s congratulated me or said I’d be a perfect wizard. I feel like everybody’s too busy congratulating everyone else and the roles they got. I mean, nobody ever stopped just for one small second to say how great I’m doing or congratulate me on the role. I feel like nobody cares about me anymore, to be honest, including you.”

“No, stop. Look, I’m sorry I haven’t been there for you all the time to support you, but I’m not a magician, a wizard, a witch or even a flying monkey; I’m a human being. I don’t have magical powers, and I... I can’t be everywhere at once. I’ve been trying to gain my mother’s trust again, to show her that I’m not just an unwanted, unhelpful part of her life. I want to show her I’m her daughter and that I care for her. But she’s really mad at me because I’m part of the musical, but I don’t care what she says, because I am going on that stage as Glinda the good witch, and no one is going to stop me. That’s why I haven’t had time to spend with you. I’m sorry, I really am Jason, but it seems like you’re asking me just to forget about myself and MY future, and put YOU in front of myself. You know, maybe we shouldn’t be together if you’re going to be this demanding and unsupportive of me.”

Then Winter began to walk away angrily.

“Winter, I’m sorry, come back. I didn’t mean it like that. Please come back.”

But Winter continued walking away.

____________________________________________________________________________________

In the auditorium, all on her lonesome, Harmony was perfecting her solo of “Soon As I Get Home” for the musical.

The_Wiz_-_Soon_As_I_Get_Home

The Wiz - Soon As I Get Home

Harmony:

There’s a feeling here inside

That I cannot hide

And I know I’ve tried

But it’s turning me around

I’m not sure that I’m aware

If I’m up or down

If I’m here or there

I need both feet on the ground

Why do I feel like I’m drowning

When there is plenty of air?

Why do I feel like frowning?

I think the feeling is fear

Here I am

In a different place

In a different time

And it’s time to space

But I don’t want to feel

I was told I would see The Wiz

But I don’t know what a wizard is

I just hope the Wiz is there

Maybe I’m just going crazy

Let myself get uptight

I’m acting just like a baby

But I’m gonna be alright

Soon as I get home

Soon as I get home

Soon as I get home

In a different place

In a different time

Different people around me

I would like to know of that different world

And how different they find me

And just what’s a Wiz

Is he big, will he scare me?

If I ask to leave

Will the Wiz even hear me?

How will I know then

If I’ll ever get home again?

Here I am alone

Though it feels the same

I don’t know where I’m going

I’m here on my own

And it’s not a game

And a strange wind is blowing

I am so amazed

At the things that I see here

Don’t want to be afraid

I just don’t want to be here

In my mind this is clear

What am I doing here?

I wish I was home.

“Well, at least one thing came out of Mr. Hadberg this week. He wouldn’t allow any cameras, mobile phones or iPods into the auditorium whilst the production was being conducted, which means there is absolutely no chance that anyone caught me on picture or film in this ridiculous old man’s wig,” said Jesse.

Then Amy reached down into her pocket. Her pink-painted nails dived around until they could feel the right object.

She pressed a few buttons on her mobile, which had a silver sequined cover, then snapped a picture of Jesse on her phone.

“Are you sure about that?” asked Amy, smiling at Jesse.

“Wait, did you just take a picture of me?” asked Jesse confused.

“Of course she did, you slow learner,” said Margret, interrupting their conversation, now walking further on to the auditorium stage.

“If I find that on Facebook I will literally kill you with my bare hands,” said Jesse in a serious tone.

The only way Amy could respond was with a little giggle.

“You are going to delete that picture, right?” asked Jesse.

“Oh so what if she doesn’t, Jesse,” said Margret. “In a month or so you’re going to be so old that your hair will already be grey. It’ll be nothing new,” she said rudely.

“Excuse me, and that’s coming from you, who’s about seven years older than me,” said Jesse back.

“Oh Jesse, you obviously haven’t heard of my family’s amazing genes. I don’t know of any single person in my family who’s ever had one single old grey hair. Never,” replied Margret. “Anyway, I’ve got to learn not to spend so much time talking to Emzara and Noah.”

“Who’s that?” asked Jesse.

“Noah. As in Noah’s ark. His wife was apparently called Emzara. She basically just said we’re married,” said Amy.

“There was also a subliminal message,” said Margret. “Noah had to build an ark which was filled with two of each type of filthy, grotty little animal you could ever imagine. Similar to your glee club in a way. You’ve got just about every single type of living loser in that room. I mean, seriously, you’ve got gays, shorties, lesbia-”

“Miss Sky, we need you to do a touch up on Harmony’s make-up,” said Poppy who had just walked onto the stage.

“Sure, I’ll be right over. I’ll leave you two alone,” said Amy, who couldn’t help but smiling at the thought of Jesse wasting the rest of the musical’s half-time break talking to Margret, who obviously was going to resume with her rude comments about his hair turning grey sooner or later, or his glee club being full of losers.

____________________________________________________________________________________

“You’re on in 5...4...3...2...1...” said Jesse to June on the side of the stage, the curtains now rising for the second half of the performance.

“Make way! Make way! Make way for the Wicked Witch of the West! Make way for Evillene!” yelled one of her entourage, the others parting like the Red Sea.

“Be quiet! Because I’m angry with everyone today!” yelled June as her character Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West.

“She’s like that every day,” whispered one of the soldiers to another.

The audience laughed. Then June looked over at a familiar face in the crowd. It was her mother. She smiled at her daughter. She knew that June had wanted her moment to be centre stage, shining in a lead role, since the day she was born, and even though she knew that her daughter’s role wasn’t the lead role as such, she knew that everything would count in her steps to becoming a Broadway star.

One of the soldiers tapped June gently on her back, the audience couldn’t see however. She then realized that she had just gone into a daydream whilst on stage and that the crowd was waiting for something to happen. She immediately walked to the right of the stage, which was the signal for the musicians to begin the song.

The Wiz (5 8) Movie CLIP - No Bad News (1978) HD

When I wake up in the afternoon

Which it pleases me to do

Don’t nobody bring me no bad news

‘Cause I wake up already negative

And I’ve wired up my fuse

So don’t nobody bring me no bad news

If we’re goin’ to be buddies

Better bone up on the rules

‘Cause don’t nobody bring me no bad news

You can be my best of friends

As opposed to payin’ dues

But don’t nobody bring me no bad news

No bad news

No bad news

Don’t nobody bring me no bad news

‘Cause I’ll make you an offer, child

That you cannot refuse

So don’t nobody bring me no bad news

When you’re talkin’ to me

Don’t be cryin’ the blues

‘Cause don’t nobody bring me no bad news

You can verbalize and vocalize

But just give me the clues

Don’t nobody bring me no bad news

Bring the message in your head

Or in something you can’t lose

‘Cause don’t nobody bring me no bad news

If you’re gonna bring me something

Bring me something I can use

‘Cause don’t nobody bring me no bad news

No bad news

No bad news

Don’t nobody bring me no bad news

‘Cause I’ll make you an offer child

That you cannot refuse

So don’t nobody bring me no bad news

Don’t nobody bring me

Don’t nobody bring me

Don’t nobody bring me

Don’t nobody bring me

Don’t nobody bring me

Don’t nobody bring me

Don’t nobody bring me

No bad news!!

The crowd applauded June and she found it hard to continue her lines, as there were so many people clapping, and she couldn’t help but smile for she had just received her first feel of Broadway.

Here I come New York,” she said in her mind, the noise still being heard in the background.

June could see her mother Casey smiling at her. She felt a sense of pride knowing her mother was proud of her.

“Hello Riley Hadberg, I’ve heard all about you,” said the good-looking man to Riley, who sat in his chair typing on his computer, almost not noticing him.

“Hello,” he finally replied.

“Hi. I’d just like to have a word with you about something you’ve done. Something you’ve done to my daughter actually.”

“Name please,” ordered Mr. Hadberg, still not rising from his seat or taking his attention away from the screen in front of him.

“Maxwell Hill. Father of Poppy and Jason Hill, two students at this school. Why aren’t you watching the musical? It’s on right now.”

“I hate musicals. What’s the point of singing when you can talk? Also, why does your voice sound familiar?” asked Riley.

“You expelled my daughter. I had a conversation with you on the phone the other night when you told me about her being expelled. That ring any bells for you?”

“Sort of. What’s her name again?”

“Poppy. Poppy Hill.”

“Oh that girl. Yeah, she was real trouble. Caught skipping school. Clearly unacceptable, I’m sure you’ll agree.”

“I do agree,” said Maxwell. “However my wife and I believe your punishment is a bit too harsh.”

“Well, you know, may as well as teach those kids a lesson.”

“Look, I know you want to change this school. I know you want to run it differently to how Patrick did, but I believe your changing this school in a negative way. I understand your concern about the lack of discipline at Jackson High, but as far as I’m aware, you’ve gone too far. Way too far. Do you understand what you’re actually doing to these kids that you expelled? You’re taking away all their education, all their friends, all the activities and events that these kids love, but you’re not only doing that, you’re taking away all of their futures. My daughter might never get a real job in the future because of you.”

Riley, who was very much annoyed by the man, finally lifted his head up to see Maxwell. He suddenly became even more annoyed by him, just by looking at him, which was unusual, because most people who saw Maxwell instantly liked him, because he had a warm, inviting smile and he looked extremely friendly. But not right now he didn’t. Right now he looked disappointed and serious.

“I’ll think about it,” replied Riley, just trying to get Maxwell out of his precious little office.

“No, you won’t. You will let me know when my daughter is allowed back at this school. Just keep in mind that everybody makes mistakes in their life and that my daughter really wants to come back. So do all those other kids that you expelled. Please make the right decision.” When he had finished speaking, Maxwell sighed and walked out of his office, feeling like he had achieved nothing.

Back at the Hill household, Poppy was sitting on the couch watching television with Carlton and Jason.

The door creaked open and the cold air blew inside.

“Hey. I’m back,” said Maxwell to the kids and his wife, Marie.

“Hey!” exclaimed Jason, running out of his seat and giving his father a hug.

“Oh hi dad,” said Poppy.

“Hey,” he replied back, shooting a pleasant, welcoming smile.

“How’d it go honey?” asked his wife.

“Well, I tried reasoning with him but I don’t think he’s going to do anything,” he said, staring at his wife’s beautiful blonde hair.

“Oh, as long as you tried your best,” said Marie in a slightly sad way.

“I just feel so bad for her,” he whispered, looking over at Poppy. She couldn’t hear him, nor could Jason or Carlton.

“I have to let her know Maxy,” said Marie.

“If you want,” he replied.

“Okay, I will,” she said, walking over to Poppy, Jason and Carlton.

“Hey, guys, would you mind if I talked to you all for a second?” she asked her kids.

“Of course,” said Poppy. “Jason, remote please.”

He threw her the remote and she turned the TV off as soon as she had grabbed hold of it.

“Poppy, Carlton, I know you two are expelled, but I have to let you know something. When I was a kid, about your age, Poppy, I skipped school, like you two. I skipped it because I hated this woman who was my teacher. Mr. Hadberg kind of reminds me of a male version of her.”

The kids laughed.

“But my punishment wasn’t nearly as bad yours,” said Marie, continuing the story. “I just had to say sorry to the teacher and I got a few detentions, but nothing like you guys did. Please don’t tell anyone this, but I think that Mr. Hadberg is a real dick-head. He really is.”

“You know if he’d heard you say that he would literally kill you. Firstly, because it’s not very nice, and secondly, English teachers hate slang,” said Carlton.

Poppy laughed. “Good one Carlton,” she said, giving him a High Five.

“And I promise that we’re going to try and call your parents soon Carlton. I know last time didn’t work out too well, trying to convince them that you should go back to live with them, whether you’re gay or not, but I swear that we can try again,” said Maxwell kindly.

“Aww, thanks guys,” replied Carlton.

In the auditorium, Harmony performed an emotional version of “Home” from The Wiz. The audience seemed to be enjoying the performance.

The_Wiz_(8_8)_Movie_CLIP_-_Home_(1978)_HD

The Wiz (8 8) Movie CLIP - Home (1978) HD

When I think of home I think of a place where there

Is love overflowing

I wish I was home, I wish I was back there with the

Things I’ve been knowing

Wind that makes the tall grass bend into leaning

Suddenly the raindrops that fall have a meaning

Sprinkling the scene makes it all clean

Maybe there’s a chance for me to go back now that I

Have some direction

It would sure would be nice to be back home where there’s

Love and affection

As Harmony continues the song in the background, we see Amanda checking her phone to see if there’s any response at all from Rex.

And just maybe I can convince time to slow up

Giving me enough time in my life to grow up

Time to be my friend

Let me start again

In her bedroom, Liz looked out the window, wishing she wasn’t grounded, as did Teddy in her room.

We now see

Suddenly my world’s gone and changed its face

But I still know where I’m going

I have had my mind run around in space

And yet, I’ve watched it growing.

Poppy and Carlton sat miserably on the couch, wishing they weren’t expelled.

And if you’re listening God

Please don’t make it hard to know if we should

Believe the things that we see

Tell us should we try to stay

Or should we run away

Or would it be better just to let things be?

Harmony continued singing during the performance.

Living here in this brand new world might be a fantasy

But it taught me to love

And so it’s real to me

And I learned that we must look inside our hearts to find

A world full of love like yours like mine

Like home!

The audience gave a standing ovation. Harmony just smiled.

“I’ve called you all here regarding your expels. After thinking about this long and hard, I’ve come to accept a more diligent punishment for you all skipping school. Rather than being expelled, you shall be suspended for one more week, you’ll be welcomed back on Friday,” said Riley to the kids who stood now happily in his office.

“Thanks SO much Mr. Hadberg! How could we ever repay you?” asked Poppy joyously.

“Behave yourself when you get back,” replied Riley sternly.

“We sure will,” said Liz.

“Is Rex still expelled?” asked Amanda worriedly.

“No, his punishment is exactly as yours all are. I’ve tried calling both of his parents but no reply. Unfortunately, I’m not wasting any more of this school’s money on costly telephone calls, especially when they’re addressed to such troublemakers like that one Rex Espley-Wilkes. If you don’t mind passing the news on to him that would be greatly appreciated. Now get out of my office, one of you smells terrible.”

“It’s him,” whispered Carlton to Poppy, who then let out a little giggle.

“I heard that!” he growled.

Harmony is seen performing the scene where she throws a bucket of warm water onto the witch, who is June.

“Look what you’ve done! You’ve ruined me! Water, the only thing I’m powerless against! The only thing that could destroy me! Help, I’m melting!!” screamed June.

Then to show that the witch has melted away, June fell behind a chair purposely, the audience tricked into believing she melted away.

“She’s melted completely,” said Harmony sadly. “Oh no, I’ve done it again,” she moans.

Then the slaves of the witch began to cheer for Dorothy who had just killed the witch.

“What was that?” asked Tommy as the lion.

One of the slaves of the Wicked Witch said, “Thanks to you, child, we’re all free!”

Then the music to “Everybody Rejoice (Brand New Day)” began and they all joined in.

Can’t you feel a brand new day?

Can’t you feel a brand new day?

Can’t you feel a brand new day?

Can’t you feel a brand new day?

Wooh, wooh

Hey, wooh!

Tommy:

Everybody be glad

Because the sun is shining just for us

Harmony:

Everybody wake up

Into the morning into happiness

Terri:

Hello world

It’s like a different way of living now

Freddie:

And thank you world

We always knew that we’d be free somehow

Harmony with all:

In harmony

And show the world that we’ve got liberty

It’s such a change

For us to live so independently

Freedom, you see, has got out hearts singing so joyfully

Just look about

You owe it to yourself to check it out

Can’t you feel a brand new day?

Harmony (All):

Everybody be glad (be glad)

Because the sun is shining just for us (yes it is)

Everybody wake up (wake up)

Into the morning into happiness (happiness)

Hello world

It’s like a different way of living now

Terri:

And thank you world

I always knew that we’d be free somehow

Harmony with all:

In harmony

And show the world that we’ve got liberty (Terri: we got liberty)”

Then we see Amanda, Carlton, Poppy, Liz and Teddy in the crowd watching them perform, with gleaming smiles spread across their faces. Soon they’d be back where they belonged.

“It’s such a change

For us to live so independently (Terri: independently)

Freedom, you see, has got out hearts singing so joyfully (Terri: joyfully)

Just look about (Terri: aaah)

You owe it to yourself to check it out

Can’t you feel a brand new day?

Can’t you feel a brand new day?

Can’t you feel a brand new day?

Can’t you feel a brand new day?

The crowd cheered and the cast received a standing ovation.

“I can’t believe people enjoy this stuff. Good music is made by modern pop artists, not by these so-called “artists”. The people who invented these “songs”, obviously have no taste in music whatsoever,” said Ava. “Don’t you agree Sugar?”

“Of course,” said Sugar, staring around in the crowd to make sure none of The Unitards heard her.
“You don’t sound very convincing to me,” replied Ava.

“I hate this music. It’s terrible.”

“I’m so glad you’re out of that ridiculous glee club. It was about time.”

But Sugar didn’t feel that way. She kind of wanted to be back with The Unitards, or at least be friends with them again.

As everyone left the auditorium once the performance was over, Casey waited for her beloved daughter.

“Hey. There you are,” said Casey. “You were great out there June. You were fantastic. I loved watching you, it was a wonderful show.”

“Where’s dad?” asked June.

“He got called back to work on the way here to check things out after somebody broke in to the store and tried to steal the money from the cash register, but luckily the alarm went off and they made a run for it. But don’t worry, he won’t miss your performance.”

“How, he wasn’t here at all, was he?” asked June.

“No, but I snuck in my video camera. That Jesse seems quite thick, he didn’t even check my bag, he just let me through. So tonight when your father gets home, the both of you can watch your performance.”

“But he won’t know the story. He’ll miss the other bits.”
“No he won’t. I filmed it all, he won’t miss a thing,” said her mother.

“Thanks mum,” said June, then leaning in for a warm hug. “I love you mum.”

“I love you June.”

Next Arc On The Unitards.... (Promo!)[]

“Unfortunately Mr. Hadberg has cut most of our budget for glee club, sending it all to Miss Ellis’ Super Girls. Therefore April and I had an idea to perform a concert at Jackson High where the money raised from the tickets will be used for our bus trip to Regionals. We’ll be holding auditions to determine who gets the lead solo,” says Jesse.

“Great, so when are auditions?” asks Harmony.

“Tomorrow,” replies April.

Can you blow my whistle, baby, whistle baby, let me know. Girl I’m gonna show you how to do it, and we start real slow. You just put your lips together and you come real close. Can you blow my whistle baby, whistle baby? Here we go,” sings Simon in the auditorium.

The tune of the song continues in the background.

“You will never be better than me,” says June in the girls bathroom, the person she is speaking to unknown.

“Hey. I’m Daisy Evans. I’d like to audition for your concert.”

“Okay, well, uh... show us what you got,” says Jesse hesitantly.

“My audition was by far the best,” says Ava boastfully.

“But you’re not even in the glee club,” replies Simon.

“So, nothing’s stopping me from auditioning.”

“I’d love to,” says Sugar.

“I still don’t know where Rex is,” says Amanda crying.

“No response at all?” asked Teddy.

“None,” she replies through her tears.

“I have to get that lead solo,” says Harmony to Terri in the hallways.

“Why’s it so important?” asks Terri.
“I just need the solo and that’s all that matters.”

Staring into someone’s eyes, Laura says, “I love you. More than anyone else. More than Spider, forget about him. I like you. And I want to be with you, nobody else. Just you.”
